Norwegian Fjord Pony

The Norwegian Fjord pony is an ancient breed, with striking primitive characteristics, resembling the Asian Wild Horse. Once the mount of the Vikings, the Norwegian Fjord's popularity spread across Scandinavia, and they are now found worldwide. l Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Fjord has remained pure and is often regarded one of the ancestors of all modern European Draft breeds. They are incredibly versatile, making excellent riding ponies, as well as being used for farm work and driving; they are tireless workers with a very kind and biddable temperament.

They are characterized by their distinctive dun coloring with upright two-tone mane, which is dark in the center and light cream or silvery on the outside. They are stocky with a neat head, wide forehead and a very powerful neck with little or no wither. The legs are short and strong with some feathering and the feed exceptionally hard. They differ in weight and size, some being almost light draft, while others are more refined and used mostly for riding. Their height varies between 13 hh to 14 hh.
